Daisy Belle Maultsby Harris

Daisy Belle Maultsby Harris, age 99, died peacefully Saturday, January 27, 2018 surrounded by her family at home. A Bolivia, NC native, she was born to the late Robert Henry Maultsby and Daisy Bright Rourk Kopp Maultsby on January 30, 1918. She attended public school in Brunswick County, NC. Later she enrolled at Flora MacDonald College and graduated from ECTC in 1939. Prior to marrying William Jackson Harris she was a school teacher in Brunswick County. Daisy and William moved to Durham after WWII. Daisy was a remarkable and amazing woman who loved life and all of those who were a part of it. Over the years she was active with the PTA of Hope Valley Elementary serving as secretary, working with the Cub Scouts and as a Brownie Scout leader. As a member of Epworth Uneed Methodist Church, she served on the board, was president and a life member of the Women???s Society of Christianeervice. She also served as president of the Green Thumb Garden Club demonstrating her love of plants and flowers. She is survived by William J. Harris, Jr. of the home and Dr. Nancy Harris Carroll and husband Charles of New Bern. She was the favorite aunt of W.A. Kopp, Jr., Sarah Elizabeth Sneed, John Richard Kopp, Allen Maultsby, Pam Higgins, Judy Carol Evans, Roberta Dosher as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded ineeath by her husband of almost 60 years, William Jackson Harris, three bothers W.A. Kopp, Sr., Rustic Allen Maultsby, Robert Henry Maultsby and niece Rosalyn King. A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 30, 2018, from Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Karen Whitaker officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the home of Daisy on Monday as you are able. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Epworth Uneed Methodist Church, 3002 Hope Valley Rd., Durham, NC 27707 for the care group.
