Crescenzo (Cris) Mercaldo

Crescenzo (Cris) Joseph Mercaldo passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care surrounded by members of his family on February 12, 2024. He was born in Manhattan, NY to Mary and Phil Mercaldo. Cris graduated from high school and joined the Army where he served our country for two years. He met and married the love of his life, Theresa Quinn Mercaldo on August 30, 1958. They moved to Durham, NC with his company of 38 years, Ligget & Myers where they raised their three children, Andrew, Cynthia (Cindy) and Steven (Steve).

Cris was an amazing father who not only was very involved with each of his children plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren each and every day, but he also made it a point to be active with all of their interests. From swimming to football, skateboarding to basketball and anything else that they felt passionate about, every single member of his family knew they could count on Cris (Dad, Grandaddy and great-Grandaddy) to be right there cheering them on.

Cris is survived by his wife, Terry and his children: Andrew (wife Cyndi), Cindy (boyfriend Robby) and Steve (wife Sharon), grandchildren: Cris Mercaldo (wife Laura), Stephanie Batten (husband Brad), Theresa Friedley (husband Matt), Kris Puryear, Tori Puryear, TJ Mercaldo and Justin Mercaldo, great-grandchildren: Oakley & Owen Mercaldo, Roman Batten.

The family will be having visitation at Immaculate Conception (W. Chapel Hill St Durham, NC) from 9:30am-10:15am on February 16, 2024 followed by a service from 10:30-11:30am. Refreshments will be served after and all who are wanting to are welcome to join the family at the graveside service at St. Matthew Catholic cemetery (1001 Mason Rd, Durham NC).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church.
