Cora Hazel Ives

Cora Hazel Ives resident of Durham died Monday, December 13, 2021. She was born December 4, 1930 to the late Walter Morrison Ives and Sarah Elizabeth Sparrow Ives of Durham.


She was predeceased by her brother Richard Morrison Ives and  sister Sarah Ellen Ives Lyon Nichols. Nephews, Richard Morrison Ives, Jr., William M. Lyon, and grand nephews Gregory Ryan Ives, and Kevin, Gregory, and Scott Lyon survive.  Also surviving cousins include Carla Whitehurst Odom, Charlotte Perrin, and Catherine Quick. 


Cora was a graduate from Durham High School, in the Class of 1949.  She retired from Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company where she had been employed in accounting over 41 years.  She had been a member of the Colonel John Banister Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and recently the Organizing Member #1 of the Virginia Society, Southern Dames of America that is an organization engaged in support of eye research and preservation. 


A graveside ceremony will be held in Section 9 of Maplewood Cemetery, Durham on Thursday, December 16 at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Richard Metzner officiating.
