Clyde Leslie Strickland BUTNER Clyde Leslie Strickland, age 89 of 311 16th Street died Friday December 6th 2013 at E.E. Toney Rest Home in Oxford NC. Clyde was born October 9, 1924 in Vance County to the late William Nathaniel and Maggie Bell Grissom Strickland. Clyde was a member of First Baptist Church in Butner, NC. He was retired with 30 years of service from John Umstead Hospital in Butner. He was a member of Butner lodge No. 697 and was recogneed for his 50 years of service as a Master Mason. He was also recogneed for his 50 years of service with the Eastern Star Chapter 94 of NC. He served 50 years of service as a York Rite Mason of Oxford Chapter #8, Oxford council #30 Oxford Commandery. He was a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite Body, the Valley of New Bern for 15 years and Past President of the Granville County Shrine Club. Visitation will be conducted from 1:30pm to 2:45pm prior to his 3:00pm service at First Baptist Church in Butner, NC. Burial will follow in the South Granville Memorial Gardens Cemetery off of Old NC 75 Highway with Masonic Rites. He is survived by sons, Edwin and wife, Menda of Durham, Allan and wife, Fran of Creedmoor, Jimmy and wife Rosemary of Durham, Roger and wife Theresa of Kingston TN and Doug and wife Debbie of Youngsville; one daughter Kaye Barber and husband James of Phoenix Az.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Clyde was preceded ineeath by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Gravitte Strickland and daughter-in-law Diane Laws Strickland. The family would like to extend special thanks to niece Debbie Laney and husband, Roy of Oxford; Hospice, the entire staff at E.E. Toney's Rest Home, with special recognition of Keon Hobgood, residents and friends. The Strickland family is being assisted by Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, NC.
