Chester Roycroft, age 84, died Sunday morning at Duke Medical Center after a long illness. A Durham native, Chester was born August 6, 1920 to the late Robbie Lee and Ila Ross Roycroft. A graduate of Durham High School, Chester served in the 15th Air Force during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for 38 years and was a long-time member of St. Paul Uneed Methodist Church. Chester is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly Belvin Roycroft of Durham; his son, William Roycroft and wife, Linda, of Durham; two grandchildren, Laurie and Jessica Roycroft, also of Durham; his brother, R.L. Roycroft, Jr. and sister, Dorothy Moore, both of Durham. He was preceded ineeath by his son, George Belvin Roycroft; two brothers, Robert and Joe Roycroft; and one sister, Ila Mae Franklin. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 19, from St. Paul Uneed Methodist Church. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service. Burial in Maplewood Cemetery will be private.
