Ms. Cheryl Sidney Currin, age 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Sidney Taylor Currin and Anne Cornelia Pitts Currin and began her full life in Granville County, NC on January 15, 1954.
Cheryl was first a daughter, then a sister, then a mother and a grandmother. She had the heart of a free spirit that many could not compare too. She looked forward to family gatherings, especially Christmas, when giving gifts brought out the kid in her. She would find any reason to celebrate and be able to give a gift.
Cheryl had a kind soul that had a love for the beach, which was so intense that she decided to walk on Top Sail Beach during a hurricane because she wanted to feel the “force of nature”. Cheryl was known to pack a suitcase on a whim and go where her feelings took her. She enjoyed traveling the states with her son and friends whenever she could find time.
Cheryl also had a huge heart for animals. She cared for many over the years, whether she chose them, or they chose her, they always had a home until their last day on earth.
Cheryl took pride in being a nurse for many years; helping others and giving them a reason to smile. Even though Cheryl was the “quiet one” in the family, her place of work and with her friends; she never hesitated if someone was in need. She always helped the “underdog” and not a single person could argue that.
Cheryl is survived by her son, Ian Hilton; her granddaughter, Isabella Hilton; and Isabella’s mother, Andrea Green. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Gallagher and husband, Joseph, and their sons, Brian Gallagher (Carolyn Mort) and Eric Jones. She will be missed by many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced and will be held at Banks United Methodist Church, 2632 NC Highway 96, Franklinton, NC 27525. The family will receive guests for visitation from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home, Oxford, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Cheryl’s memory to Banks United Methodist Church, Attention: Andrea Bullock, P.O. Box 1276, Creedmoor, NC 27522
Even though, Cheryl was taken too soon, she is now in Heaven celebrating with her parents, loved ones that went before her and all her special pets that crossed the rainbow bridge. She will be missed by many, but her free spirit will live on.
The Currin family is proudly being served by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home, 503 College St., Oxford, NC, 27565.
