Chelladorai Soundararaj Andrews

October 26, 1946 — April 27, 2024

Cary

(Cary, NC) Chelladorai Soundararaj Andrews went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2024. He was born October 26, 1946 to the late Kamala Ammal (Mother) and Soundara Rasan (Father).

Andrews was born in 1946 in the town of Perundurai, Erode District, Tamil Nadu, India. Both of his parents were teachers. He was the third oldest son and also had two younger brothers and on younger sister.

“Andrew” or “Andy” as he was affectionately called in America received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees prior to moving to the USA. He received his undergraduate degree at Loyola College in Madras and his Master’s in Social Work at American College Madurai. He worked for the Church of South India (CSI) Diocese of Trichy-Tanjore as a career counselor for students. After moving to the USA, he switched careers, beginning work as a Chemical Analyst at CompuChem Corporation in Research Triangle Park, performing safety testing and sampling during the night shift. Later in his career, Andrew worked for the state laboratory of North Carolina as well as for the energy company Power Secure. In the year 2010, Andrew was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease which he struggled with for the rest of his life.

Andrew was a loving husband, a caring father and grandfather and lived his entire life as devout Christian among all his friends, family and community. He married Margaret Kuragamthara in 1977, and moved to the United States the following year. In 1987, Margaret and Andrew welcomed their son Justin to the family, whom Andrew cared for during the days while continuing to work nights. He loved to travel to different places around the country, took hundreds of photos and dozens of family videos. He enjoyed visiting family members and friends in far places like Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, and Texas. He was never known to hurt or offend anybody even with his words, so we are sure that he is with the Lord!

Andrew had numerous hobbies and was skilled in areas of carpentry, performing much of the work on the family home. He was also known for his South Indian culinary skills and metal crafting skills that were admired by many.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret, his son Justin, daughter-in-law Liza, and grandchildren Ajimal, Jazper, and Zaber. Andrews was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother Johnson, his younger brothers Jayakaran and Raja, and his sister Pramila.
