Charles Jordan, or Charlie as most people knew him, was born in New York City in 1949, to Victor and Margaret Jordan, who gave Charlie and his brother Robert not only a loving home, but an example of how to live with kindness, courage and integrity. Charlie grew up on Staten Island, and while fate would take him many other places, he would always remain a quintessential New Yorker. He lived a life full of different experiences, and had at one time or another been a train conductor, a beekeeper, a medical student, a federal agent, a monk, an entrepreneur, a lawyer and even, albeit briefly, a U.S. Marine, and traveled extensively everywhere from Egypt to South America to France.
After graduating law school, Charlie went on to see success building both a family and a business. He met his future wife Mary one night at a party, and while she was from Greensboro, NC and he was from Staten Island, they found a connection that transcended the cultural barriers between North and South. Together they went on to have three children, first Paul and then the twins Kathryn and James, who converted him from hobby dad to full time father. They were married for 38 years until his death.
In his professional life, Charlie, with the help of his friends and business partners, succeeded in building one of the largest title insurance agencies in New York City, Lex Terrae, and would go on to be recognized as one of the premier legal experts in the country on matters that affect the sale and insurance of real estate.
Faith was also one of the pillars of Charlie's life, and he was a dedicated Roman Catholic, even going so far as becoming a brother at the Trappist Monastery Mepkin Abbey as a young man, before he realized that his true calling was to have a family. His faith kept him strong during the four and a half years he battled cancer, and while his illness eventually made it difficult for him to go out much, he liked to share his prayers with other sick and troubled people through social media. Toward the end of his life, his greatest wish was to make it long enough to see his daughter Kathryn marry her fiance Evan Powell, and in July of 2020 he attended their wedding, still robust enough to enjoy a good meal with his friends and family, before dying just a few weeks later.
Charlie was intelligent, full of life, and above all generous and loving towards the people close to him. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jordan, and three children, Paul Jordan, James Jordan and Kathryn Powell (Evan), and his younger brother Robert Jordan (Christina). He will be missed.
