Charles L. Andrews, Jr.

Durham-Charles L. Andrews, age 88, died peacefully on Wednesday August 10, 2022 in Durham, NC. 

Charlie was a lifelong resident of Durham.  After graduating from Durham High School, Charlie proudly served in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He became executive vice-president of Security Federal Savings & Loan and later Vice-President at BB&T Bank before retiring in 1995.

Anyone that knew Charlie, knew he was a die-hard Tarheel fan. He and his wife, Barbara were regulars at UNC sporting events including a trip to the Maui Invitational basketball tournament.  Charlie was an avid golfer and loved his time golfing with friends at Willowhaven Country Club where he also served on the board.

Charlie was born on September 23, 1933 to the late Charles L. Andrews, Sr. and Vera Andrews.  He was predeceased by his sister Sarah Andrews and his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Sutton Andrews. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Tippy Sutton, his nephew, Cole King and wife, Paula of Durham and their sons, Will (Kerri) and Adam (Currin).

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from the Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Murphy officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate Methodist Church or to the Animal Protection Society of Durham.
