DURHAM) – Mr. Charles Alexander Roach, Jr., 73, of Durham, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on July 4, 2022. He was born on July 14, 1948, to the late Charles Alexander and Mary Martin Sherrill Roach of Durham.
He attended Randolph Macon Academy in Fort Royal, VA and graduated from Durham High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from North Carolina Wesleyan College where he was class president and a member of Alpha Delta Chi fraternity.
After graduating college, he began his career with Lane Furniture Company. While working for Lane, he resided in Lynchburg, VA, Dallas, TX, and San Antonio, TX. During his successful sales career, he was awarded Distinguished Sales Achiever multiple times and was promoted to Central Sales Manager.
Known by his family and friends as “Lex”, he never met a stranger and made friends with everyone. He will be remembered for his genuine spirit, sense of humor, entertaining stories, and lifelong love of Duke Basketball.
Surviving are, daughter Lauren Shell Converse and husband, Shelton of Wilmington, daughter Lindsey Roach Simmons and husband, Zachary of Raleigh, sister Nancy Roach Dougherty of Linville, brother William Allen Roach of Knoxville, TN, and brother John Wesley Roach of Davidson. Lex was the proud grandfather of John Shelton Converse and Charles Knowles Converse of Wilmington and Judson Cole Simmons and Elizabeth Frances Simmons of Raleigh.
The family extends sincere appreciation to Right at Home In-Home Care & Assistance and Duke HomeCare & Hospice for their dedicated care and support for the family.
A private family graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham. The family will receive friends to celebrate Lex’s life on August 19 from 2:00-5:00 at the Champions Club in Cameron Indoor Stadium, 115 Whitford Drive, in Durham.
