Carolyn Sherman Briggs

OXFORD: Carolyn Sherman Briggs, died Tuesday October 2, 2012 at her home. She was a native of Granville County and was the daughter of the late William Sidney and Julia Beth Currin Sherman. Carolyn was the widow of the late William "Buck" Briggs. Carolyn was a home maker and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, member of the WMU and worked with Meals on Wheels. Surviving is a daughter, Robin Briggs BlevinsGary of Oxford; two grandchildreneellen Blevins and Billy Blevins, sisters, Edith S. BondDavid of Lake Lure, and Bonee S. RiddleJim of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Ed Briggs of Oxford and sister-in law Linda HiltonJames of Oxford. Also surviving are two nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Friday October 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night October 4, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at the Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
