Carolyn was born in Durham on January 1, 1945. She graduated from Southern High School in 1963 and then attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for four years. After her education she worked in her earlier years at Ligget and Myers Tobacco Company, an insurance company in Florida, then she moved back to the Research Triangle Park with various companies for seven years including working for the Comptroller of Duke University. She then went to work for Frank Kenan in a local business in Chapel Hill for twenty years. During her retirement she was also a Broker with Thompson Realty for many years.
Carolyn was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham, NC for 76 years, all of her life. She held the title of the Longest Living Female Member of the Church. She will be buried on the Church grounds.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her Father, George W. Ray (2005) and her Mother, Leslie Nichols Ray, (2004).
Carolyn is survived by her beloved Family; her Husband, Charles Raymond Thompson, Jr., her Son, Charles R. Thompson III, of Charlotte, her Sister Derma Ray Lambert and Husband, Boyd Lambert of Chapel Hill and her Brother, George W. Ray, Jr. of Raleigh. Carolyn's extended family included her nephew, Lee Lambert and Kim Burrow of Chapel Hill, her Nephew Bill and Debbie Lambert of Charlotte, her Nephew Jacob Franklin Ray and Wife Ashley Ray.
The Funeral will be Friday, June 25, 2021 at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the Family invites you to donate to your favorite charity in Carolyn's Honor.
