Carol White Hensgen

Clearwater Beach, Florida

Carol White Hensgen, formerly of Oxford, NC and Richmond, Virginia, passed away on May 3, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 15, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Nathan Earl White and Olivia Mae Briggs White. She was predeceased by her husband, Lowell Webster Hensgen, Jr. She is survived by her brother, E. Wayne White, of Raleigh, NC.

Ms. Hensgen graduated from Chowan College (now University) with a degree in Business Administration and from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Education. She later became a real estate agent and moved to Clearwater Beach, Florida where she joined a prominent real estate firm that sold properties in Florida and several countries around the world.

Carol was a member of the International Ferrari Club where she and friends enjoyed attending races in the US, Europe and South America including Monte Carlo, Greece and Brazil. Carol was proud of her academic and career success, but that paled in comparison to her love of her family, friends and faith.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Opal Sands Hotel in Clearwater Beach, Florida for close friends and family. A private burial will be held in Oxford, NC.

I am standing on the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and I stand and watch her until she at last fades on the horizon.

Then someone at my side says, “There, she has gone.” - gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all. She is just as large in the mast, hull and spars as she was when she left my side. The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me and not in her, and just at that moment when someone by my side says “She’s gone,” others on a distant shore take up the glad shout – “There she comes!”
