Carletta Stancil Sawyer

Carletta Stancil Sawyer died Friday evening, August 3, at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough. She would have celebrated her 91st birthday on August 9. Carletta was born ineenly, NC to the late John A. and Pinetta Edwards Stancil. A long-time member of Calvary Uneed Methodist Church and the Anee Bowen Sunday School Class, Carletta was employed for many years as payroll administrator for the Durham Public School System. Carletta is the last living sibling of a family of eleven children. She was a wonderful mother and a caring sister who helped her brothers and sisters along the way. Not only did she work full-time, but she also was a successful real estate eneepreneur who enjoyed dabbling in the stock market. Carletta had been in Brookshire Nursing Center for five years following openeeart surgery. While living there she developed many lasting friendships. She took great delight in participating in the many arts/crafts and social activities sponsored by Brookshire. Over the course of the past six months she was a patient in the hospital four separate times due to her serious medical condition. And on Friday evening she went to be with the Lord and with her late husband, Henry Claude Sawyer, Sr. Carletta is survived by her two sons: Henry Claude Sawyer, Jr. and wife, Jeanne, of San Jose, CA; John Michael Sawyer and wife, Beverly Jo, of Mebane, NC; her grandchildren: John Michael Sawyer, Jr. and wife, Tonya; Shannon Sawyer Aneews and husband, Greg; her great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Samuel and Josiah Sawyer; Christopher, Rivers and Dallas Aneews; her step-grandchildren: Jeremy and Kari; and her step great-grandchildren: Dylan and Grace. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 7, from Calvary Uneed Methodist Church with the Reverend Lori Hays-Coffman presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawneemorial Park. Friends may visit Monday evening, August 6, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Members of the Anee Bowen Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
