DURHAM – Brenda Kay Perkins, age 72, died in Roxboro, NC on February 27, 2025. She was born on July 5, 1952 to Rena and Charles Wood.
Brenda grew up in Durham and attended Durham High School. She began a long career in health care, during which she held positions at Duke Eye Care Center, Durham Regional Hospital, and FastChart. One of her proudest career achievements was attaining her LPN degree from Durham Technical Institute.
She enjoyed creative pursuits, receiving awards for her ceramic work and certification from Wilton for cake decorating. She also spent time as a representative for Tupperware and Longaberger. She loved cooking and collected cookbooks, and her appreciation for designer handbags was legendary.
Brenda is survived by her daughter, Joy Leftwich and husband William of Summerville, SC; grandchildren Aaron Moorefield, Leah Moorefield, Emma Kay Leyva, Gracie Leftwich, Abigail Leftwich, and Lily Leftwich; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Robin Lombardi and husband John of Las Vegas, NV. Brenda was preceded in death by father, Charles Wood; mother, Rena Andrews; stepfather, Ralph Andrews; and husband, Steve Perkins.
Graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham on Friday, March 14th at 12:00pm.
