Billy Brax Sykes, 75, a long time resident of Durham, passed away at Durham Regional Hospital on Monday, March 24, 2008, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Bill was born on May 27, 1932. He proudly served in the Uneed States Army. Bill worked at Trianee Communities until 1990 whenee suffered a stroke. He retired to his home and was cared for by his loving wife. He was predeceased by his mother, Ethel C. Sykes, his father, Henry T. Sykes, his sisters, Margaret Jacobs and Hazel Rushing and his daughter, Brenda L. Mitchell, Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years, Claudette and his brother, Clyde Sykes Claribel of Durham. He is also survived by his children, Garry Mitchell Lou Ann of Rougemont, Bonee Hilliard Willie deceased of Cedar Grove, Donna Dorton Ralph of Hillsborough, Patty Nipper Timmy of Mebane and James Mitchell Sykes of Washington DC. He has 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several loved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27th from 6pm 8pm at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 2905 Camberly Drive, Durham, NC. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28th at 11am at Woodlawneemorial Park. Pastor Timmy Nipper will preside and military honors will be given. The Family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to Community Home Care and Hospice for the extraordinary care and support provided to Bill and his family.
