DURHAM –Bess Laws Crumpler, age 80, died at Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center on September 26, 2024. She was born on January 1st, 1944 to the late Ed Laws and Virgie Winstead.
Bess worked at GTE after graduating from high school. After retiring from GTE, she worked as a Durham County Mental Health clerical worker. Once she left the working world, she looked forward to her new role of taking care of her grandchildren. She loved being their Grandma. Bess was active in her church, enjoyed reading, and meticulously maintained her backyard swimming pool every summer for family and friends.
Bess is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Crumpler Harris, son-in-law, Carl Harris, grandchildren, Joseph Bailey Harris, MacKenzie Lynn Harris, & Andrew Cole Harris. Sisters Pandora Frazier and Lula Mae Grogan. Bess was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Bailey Crumpler.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10am in the Hall -Wynne Funeral Service Chapel, with a funeral service to be held at 11am at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Markham Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Guess Road Baptist Church.
