Baxter Reid Oakley

Baxter Reid Oakley, age 86, died peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022. He was the son of the late Ivory Thomas Oakley and Ruby Fuller Oakley.  Reid was born in Person County, NC on May 03, 1936.

Reid was a strong fixture in the community, who loved to work on tractors, especially John Deere.  He worked for 19 years with Louisiana Pacific as a mechanic, farmed and shared 52 years with his wife, Alice, where they raised their daughter, Jennifer.

Reid is survived by his wife, Alice Murray Oakley; his daughter, Jennifer Oakley Seeley; and his grandson, Nathan David Seeley. He will be dearly missed by his brothers, Lawrence Oakley (Regina), Samuel Oakley and his sister, Margaret Oakley.  He will also be missed by many extended family and friends too numerous to name. 

Reid was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Coy Oakley and Russell Oakley.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, NC and officiated by Reverend Lemar Wheeler.  A visitation for friends and family will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan on Thursday, August 25, 2022.  

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made in his honor to Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
