Barbara Liner Cannady

October 3, 1920 — March 19, 2010

Barbara Liner Cannady, aged 89, died peacefully on March 19, 2010 at Uneealth Post-Acute Care of Durham, after a long period of declining health. Barbara was born on October 3, 1920 in Hillsborough to Elma McDade Liner aneewell Cornelius Liner, the 4th of their eight children. She was preceded ineeath by her beloved husband of 42 years, James Bruce Cannady, who died in 1986. She was also predeceased by her parents and six siblings - brothers, Ervin, Swain, and Cornelius and sisters, Gladys Coley, Jane Gooch, and Dallie Jones. She is survived by her sister, Carol Martin husband, Wayne of Keller, Texas, along with twelve nieces and nephews and their families who are left to cherish her memory. Barbara attended High Point College and worked for over 30 years as a department maneer in Radiology at Duke Uneersity. With her husband, Bruce, she ran Cannady Dry Cleaners with locations in Durham and Raleigh. The Cannady's lived for many years on Autumn Drive in Durham, where Barbara loved tending her flower garden, walking along the Eno River, and spending time with friends and family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, and aunt. Barbara was a loyal and active member of Temple Baptist Church where she chaired the Finance committee, taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible school and served in many other areas of the church. She also supported the purchase of new choir robes as well as new pipes for the church organ. Throughout her life, Barbara helped those less fortunee in neerous unsung ways, living a life of charity in both word and deed. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Hall-Wynne in Durham by Rev. Scott Hovey. The family will receive visitors beforehand from 1:00 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 4504 Sterling Drive, Durham, NC 27712. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Uneealth Post-Acute Care for their devoted service and to the members of Temple Baptist Church for their fellowship, prayers and visitation with Barbara during the last years of her life.
