Austin Charles Rainey, 19, of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Ballston Lake, NY, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Born neember 9, 1996 in Albany, NY, Austin was a son of Edward Rainey. and Donna Hladik Rainey of Chapel Hill. He was a college student at UNC Charlotte, where he was a student maneer for the 49ers men???s basketball team; and was an employee of Dick???s Sporting Goods and the Durham Bulls. Austin was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, and steadfast in his faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ in his life. He would give wristbands to his friends, imprinted with ???I Am Second???, as a reminder to live life through Christ, and always put Him first. He was a huge sports faneenjoying his favorite teams which included the UNC Charlotte 49ers, UNC Chapel Hill Tar Heels, New York Yanees, and Charlotte Hornets. As shared by the 49ers coach, ??????His uplifting presence will be greatly missed.??? Austin was active in Charlotte Young Life, whose mission includes that ???Every adolescent will have the opportunity to meet Jesus Christ and follow Him.??? In addition to his loving parents, survivors include a brother, Ryan Rainey of Chapel Hill; maternal grandmother, Joyce Hladik of Ballston Lake, NY; paternal grandfather, Edward Rainey of Durham, NC; two maternal aunts, two paternal unees, and their families, Debra Mattice (husband Bruce) of Galway, NY, Darlene Letenee (husband Thomas) of Burnt Hills, NY, William Rainey (wife Jenneer) of Virginia Beach, VA, and James Rainey of New York, NY. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:30 a.m., with Fr. Scott McCue officiating. A reception, celebrating Austin???s life, will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Austin???s memory may be made to Young Life Greensboro, P.O.
