Artie Jack High

Mr. Artie Jack High, 74, of Pittsboro and formerly of Durham, died October 26, 2010 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Borneebruary 14, 1936 in Durham County, he was the son of Artie Earl High and Anee Bennett High. Artie worked at Trianee Brick Company from 1961 until the company closed. He theneegan working for Durham County in the water treatment department until his retirement. Artie served in both the US Air Force and later in the US Navy where he fought in Viet Nam. He was a member of Lowes Grove Baptist Church in Durham. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hamill High; daughter, Ann Buckman of Creedmoor; granddaughter, Amanda Ottoway of Franklinton; sister, Gail Hurst, and brother, Wayne High, both of Durham. At Mr. High's request, private cremation will take place at Hall-Wynne Crematory; no formal public service will take place. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Lowes Grove Baptist Church, 4430 S. Alston Avenue, Durham, NC 27713. Arrangements for Mr. High are under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service and Cremation of Pittsboro.
