Anrol "Buddy" Oliver Sawaya, age 75, died Tuesday, April 5th, at Durham Regional Hospital. Buddy was born in Salina, KS to the late George and Olive Johnson Sawaya. He proudly served his country while in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. A member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, Buddy worked in construction and later retired from IBM. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Carpenter Sawaya of Durham; his daughter, Cathy Berry and husband, Steve, of Rougemont; his two sons, Mike Sawaya and wife, Kate, of Sanford; and George Sawaya and wife, Tammie, also of Durham; two sisters, neene Schell and husband, Doneevonne Scuitte and husband, Bob; three brothers, George Sawaya Jr. and wife, Cathy; Emerson Sawaya, and Norman Sawaya and wife, Patricia; and three much loved granddaughters and grandson. He was preceded ineeath by his brother, Jack Sawaya. A memorial service with military honors will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Durham Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Denton and the Rev. Gerald Goodwin presiding. Friends may visit with the family immediately after the service in the church.
