Ann Patricia Walters (Pat) age 78 died at her home in Durham on August 12, 2024, surrounded by loving family and friends after a 7-year long journey with vascular dementia. Pat was born on August 17, 1945, in New York, to the late John and Agnes O’Connor.

Pat graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in New York. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Walters. They began their married life in New York, and in 1973, the family moved to Durham, North Carolina when Ken’s job was transferred. Pat’s primary job was family manager and caregiver. She and Ken raised 3 children together. Their youngest child, Christine, was born with severe disabilities. Pat was Christine’s loving caregiver for 45 years.

Pat was a dedicated volunteer at Immaculate Conception Church for many years. Her most life changing volunteer job at the church was as a Refugee Resettlement Coordinator. Along with the support of then Pastor, Monsignor Donald Staib, Pat coordinated housing, job placement, school registration and loving support to hundreds of Vietnamese Refugees over many years. Those she helped grew to a large extended family whom she loved dearly.

Pat is survived by her daughter Anne Marie Clifford (Marc), her son, Brian Walters (Shannon), 4 loving grandchildren- Colleen Clifford, Ryan Clifford, Justin Walters and Brandon Walters, many nieces and nephews, and a host of beloved, dear friends.
