DURHAM: Anne Satterfield Long, 68, died at home Thursday following a brief illness. She was born in Danville, VA, May 20, 1948 to Elton and Mary Howard (Calvert) Satterfield. Anne graduated from George Washington High School and attended Averett College in Danville. She moved to Durham and worked as a secretary with D.C. May Co. and later with Hill & Chesson. Anne was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was involved in two women???s bible study groups and a ???shepherding??? fellowship group through the church. She also voluneered with Penny Feathers, a children???s theatre group. Anne loved travel and was a crossword puzzle fanatic. She was virtually unavailable daily from 4-5:00 PM being devoted to the Young and the Restless, which she referred to as ???her story.??? Anne lived life with gusto, spontaneity and deep faith. She was a natural at cultivating relationships ??? her large network of friends bearing witness to a love of people, her magnetic personality and generous spirit. One could see it ineer dancineeyes ??? the sparkle of joy, fun and magnetism. Anne had a great sense of style reflected ineer appearance and her beautiful home which she opened freely to others. Despite her share of hardship, grief, and most recently a grim diagnosis, Anne was strong, kept her humor, and always maintained hope. Surviving are her daughter, Robin Castillo and husband, Steve, of Durham; granddaughters, Bailey, Anne Marsh and Davie Castillo; sisters, Linda James of Durham and Mary Beth Arcioulo and husband, Frank, of Tucson, AZ; her former husband, David N. ???Crockett??? Long of Durham; and many nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased in 2013 by her son, David N. Long, Jr. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday from the Church of the Good Shepherd. Anne will be buried in Old Maplewood Cemetery next to her son. Friends may visit 6:30-8:30 PM Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Gifts in Anne???s memory may be made to Duke Homecare & Hospice or to Church of the Good Shepherd Church.
