Ann Mcleod Martin

Ann McLeod Martin died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at WakeMed Cary Hospital, neember 14, 2016. She was born to the late Bessie and Angus Arthur McLeod oneecember 26, 1927, in Roanee Rapids, NC. Ann graduated in 1949 from Woman???s College of the Uneersity of North Carolina (now UNC Greensboro) with a degree in Chemistry. In 1950 she met her future husband Bill while teaching in Kannapolis, NC. They were married in 1951 and moved to Newport News, VA where she used her scientific knowledge to work at the Newport News shipyard. After stops in Buffalo, NY and Richmond, VA she returned to her much loved North Carolina with her family in 1961. She then had a long and rewarding career as a science teacher in Sanford Public Schools and Durham County Public Schools. She was well respected and loved, as evidenced by the letters of thanks she received from many of her students (and which she kept). After retiring in 1986, she and her husband Bill enjoyed travelling, stayed active in Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church aneenjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Ann most recently lived in Waltonwood Senior Living in Cary, NC where she cherished her new friends and honed her Rummikub and Bridge skills. Ann possessed a beautiful smile, a great sense of humor, a genee disposition and she was loved by many. Ann is survived by her loving daughter, Margaret Martin Bartholomew and husband Steve, of Garner; two sons, William A. Martin, Jr and wife Lisa, of Holly Springs, John McLeod Martin and wife Margaret, of Wilmington; and her grandchildreneelizabeth, Molly, Cameron, Caroline, Alexa, and Scott. Ann is preceded ineeath by her husband Dr. William A. Martin; brothers Billy and Gilbert McLeod; and her sister, Nina Blake. A memorial service and burial will be held on a later date at Euphronia Presbyterian Church in Sanford, NC. She will rest there next to her husband, parents, and multiple generations of the McLeod family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Ann???s passion for education with a gift to the UNCG School of Education???s Teacher Education/Higher Education Alumneendowment, which supports the greatest needs of students preparing to become teachers.
