Alta Belle Mills

Mrs. Alta Belle Pendergraph Gilmore Mills, 81, of Blakes Drive, Pittsboro, died January 28, 2009 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Born in Durham County on October 31, 1927, Alta Belle was the daughter of John Erie Pendergraph and Addie Farrell Pendergraph. A Baptist, Alta Belle was also a homemaker. Survivors include her sons, William Gilmore of Chapel Hill and Ted Mills of Chatham County; daughters, Florence Gurley of Pittsboro, Sharon Holland of Sanford, and Kathy Jenks of Siler City; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Pendergraph of Pittsboro; and a sister Maudie Nash of Franklinton. Mrs. Mills was preceded ineeath by her first and second husbands, William Gilmore and Otis Mills, a son, Randy Mills, and five brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 31, 2009 from Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
