OXFORD: ALMETA B. AVERETT, a resident of Oxford, died Saturday May 28, 2011, in Granville Medical Center after a short illness. She was a native of Pierce Co., Georgia and was the daughter of the late George Lewis and Marguerite Moore Beasley. Almeta was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and she was a banking administrator with Granville Savings and Loan. She lived most of her teenee life ineew York City before returning to settle with her husband in Granville County in 1950. Almeta had a passionee love of music and fine arts; she was an avid reader and loved singing in local church choirs. Later in life she loved to travel aneeveryone who knew her admired her forthright honesty, spirituality and forbearance. Almeta is survived by her daughter, Janet Marguerite Averett, to whom she passed oneer love of classical music, aneextended family. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Shirley Staneeld Averett, and daughter, Shirley Ann Averett Dixon. A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM in Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. J. Steven Bolton. Burial will be in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family requests the omission of flowers and that memorials be made to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 PM Sunday at the Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
