Alice Mansfield Rankin

DURHAM-Alice Mansfield Rankin, age 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Croasdaile Retirement Village with her children by her side. A native of Durham, Alice was the daughter of the late W. Fuller and Margaret Steele Mansfield. Alice was a longtime member of Epworth Uneed Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, initiated the Care Group for visitations and taught Sunday School. Alice was also involved in the Methodist Women and many other church activities. She served the Durham community by being an active member of the League of Women Voters and was a Precinct Judge durineelections. Alice was supportive of her children voluneering as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. Alice served as Hope Valley PTA president and was a member of the Jordan High Booster Club. Alice and Bill both graduated from Duke Uneersity and later were married in Duke Chapel. Some of the best times of Alice and Bill???s lives were spent with family, square dancing and watching Duke basketball. Alice is survived by her daughter, Gwen Rankin Lloyd of Mebane; her son, Jeff Rankin and wife, Gail of Durham; her brother, Lee Mansfield of Durham; her grandchildren, Bobby Lloyd and Justin Lloyd; Karen Gilmore and Robert Sears; her great grandchildren, Connor Gilmore, Trevor Gilmore, Dylan Gilmore, and Jack Sears. Alice was preceded ineeath by her husband, Bill Rankin. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Monday, January 11, 2016 at Epworth Uneed Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Whitaker officiating.
