Alice Bragg Bigham, 94 of Franklinton passed away June 29, 2013 at Louisburg Nursing Center. Born in Granville County she was the daughter of the late Bayard Lamar Bragg and Norma Moore Bragg. She was the widow of Isaac Leroy Bigham, Jr. Alice believed her zeal to always do her best origineed from the inspiration of her parents and their strong support of her. Alice graduated from Wilton High School; East Carolina Uneersity with an AB degree in elementary education, the Uneersity of North Carolina with a Master's Degree in elementary education and a minor in sociology. Alice continued post graduate studies at UNC, NCSU and Duke Uneersity. Alice taught in the public school system for 39 years. After retirement she later tutored students ineer home for 15 years. Alice was very active in Franklinton Uneed Methodist Church , she was elected Lay Leader of her church in 1992 and Lay Leader of the Raleigh District of Methodist Churches. Alice served ineeadership positions ineethodist Women. Alice was a life member of the National Education Association, North Carolineeducation Association, and served as a State Delegate in Portland, Seattle, and Minneapolis. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for key women educators. Alice was an active member of the Franklinton Woman's Club, the Franklinton Garden Club, Franklinton County Chapter of Retired School Personnel, the American Association of Uneersity Women, Wake Forest Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Worthy Matron for Women, and The Pilot Club. One of her greatest pleasures was vacationing on the beach at Oak Island, where her family had a second home. She also enjoyed her cocker Spaniels, Dolly, Gypsy and Peaches. At the beach, Alice enjoyed watching the dogs run and chase shore birds, picking up seashells, and watching beautiful sunsets over the water. Alice said that those retreats added years to her life. Alice is survived by her sons, Lamar Bragg Bigham of Apex; Isaac "Ike" Leroy Bigham, III, wife, Alisha of Louisburg; her granddaughters, Claire Bigham and Grace Bigham of Louisburg; brother, Medicus E. Bragg and wife, Louise, of Pocomoke; and her sister-in-law, Ann Bragg of Franklinton. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her brothers, James R. Bragg and B.L Bragg, Jr; a dear companion and friend, Martin Liles. Friends are invited to visit from 6:00 to 7:30pm Friday, July 5, 2013 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Franklinton Chapel, 504 E.
