Durham, North Carolina Alexander C. Ney, 29 years old, born in Washington, DC. Alex passed away unexpectedly oneednesday, the 16th of April at his home in Durham. Alex was a PhD candidate at Duke Uneersity working on neel breast cancer research. Prior to beginning his research at the McDonnell Lab at Duke, Alex was a decorated officer of the 82d Airborne having attained the rank of captain during his 4 years of service. He participated in the initial invasion of Iraq during his 1-year tour of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Field Artillery Officer. Alex was revered by his comrades and for his valor was awarded the Bronze Star. Alex joined the 82d after receiving his undergraduate degree in molecular biology from Cornell Uneersity in Ithaca, New York. It was during his time at Cornell that he met the love of his life, Rachel. Alex was born into a loving family in Washington, DC and graduated Valedictorian of his high school class. We remember Alex as a loving and brilliant individual with limitless potential. Alex was a man of strong convictions, integrity, and family values. We miss his easy laugh, and his steadfast commitment to family and friends will always be treasured. Alex is survived by his wife, Rachel, and 21-month old son, Jackson, as well as his mother and father, Cheryl and Richard, and two brothers, Rich and Justin. The outpouring of support the family has seen since his passing is a testament to how many lives he touched. There will be a memorial service held for Alex at the Duke Uneersity Chapel at 3 pm on Monday, the 21st of April followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family would kindly ask for donations to Jackson's memorial trust fund. Contributions canee payable to Jackson C.
