Shirley Ford Joines

Shirley Ford Joines, 64, died at home Saturday following an extended illness. A native of Weston, WV, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lillie Turner Ford. A graduate of Fairmont College, Fairmont, WV, Shirley moved to Durham in 1966 and began a career in nursing. She worked in nursing for 10 years, and later became an optical technician. Ineecent years Shirley was a tax preparer and was employed with Executive Tax Service and later, RDS Tax Service. She was a voluneer with Durham County Board of Elections and the Durham County Library, delivering books to senior citizens and shut-ins. Shirley was a joyful spirit fun loving and quick to laugh. She was down-to-earth, open and at ease with people from all walks of life. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, William T. Joines; her daughter, Shannon J. Adcock of Greensboro; step-children, Laura Joines Novotny of San Luis Obispo, CA, Joseph T. Joines of Byron, GA and W. Stuart Joines of Charlotte; and nee grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday ineestmineer Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Betty Berghaus officiating. Private burial will be in Walnut Grove Church Cemetery, N. Wilkesboro.
