Eleni Z. Varelas

Eleni Zourdou Varelas passed away peacefully Saturday in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following a brief illness. She was borneecember 10, 1950 in Sparta, Greece and came to America with her beloved aunt at the age of 10 to live with her in Chicago. Eleni later married her neighbor in Greece, Dr. Dimitris Varelas, and moved to North Carolina, where her children, Johneeter and Georgina, were born and raised. Eleni leaves her husband, Dimitris Varelas, M.D. and her children, John Varelas of Raleigh and Georgina Varelas of Cary. Eleni was a devoted wife and mother, and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. The funeral liturgy will be 10:30 AM Wednesday from St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Durham. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 6-8 PM Tuesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, with the Trisagion litany said at 7:00 PM.
